Detained – Part 2
“Moreover the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still shut up in the court of the prison, saying,”
Jeremiah 33:1 NKJV
Jeremiah was physically detained, yet even in that condition, God spoke to him. This teaches us that even when external circumstances seem to limit us, God always has a message for us. However, it is not always necessary to be “stopped” by life; we can also choose to pause voluntarily to hear God’s voice.
- When we stop, we have time to reflect
In the daily hustle, it is difficult to pause and think about what truly matters. Taking the time to stop allows us to evaluate our lives and consider God’s purpose for us. - We gain perspective
When we stop, we can see things more clearly. Hurry and distractions make us lose focus, but a moment of stillness with God helps us see from His perspective. - We develop focus
In a world full of noise and demands, stopping helps us refocus on what truly matters. It allows us to step away from what is urgent and focus on what is eternal. - We discern the important from the urgent
Many times, we chase after what is immediate without realizing we are neglecting what is essential. Taking a pause helps us differentiate between what is simply urgent and what has eternal value. - We develop intimacy with God
In stillness, we can know God better. His presence is revealed when we take time to seek Him without rushing. - We discern His instructions
God wants to speak to us and guide us, but we are often too busy to listen. When we stop, we can receive clear direction from Him.
“The LORD says, ‘I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.'”
Psalm 32:8 NLT
- We see the paths God shows us
In a rush, we can lose our way. Taking a pause with God helps us see the options and the right path He has set before us. - We hear His counsel and feel His care
God watches over us. When we stop to listen, we realize how He has been guiding and protecting us at every step.
“Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.”
Psalm 32:9 NLT
“Moreover the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still shut up in the court of the prison, saying,”
Jeremiah 33:1 NKJV
Think About It:
• Are you running so much in life that you don’t have time to hear God’s voice?
• When was the last time you intentionally paused to reflect and seek His direction?
• How can you make the habit of stopping a regular practice in your spiritual life?
