Protection Through Dedication

Protection Through Dedication

“Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer; answer me, for I need your help. Protect me, for I am devoted to you. Save me, for I serve you and trust you. You are my God.”
Psalm 86:1–2 (NLT)

This psalm of David expresses total dependence on the Lord. It is not an empty plea or a religious repetition. It is the sincere cry of someone who has learned that God’s protection is activated through prayer and flows from a life devoted to Him. David doesn’t ask for protection as a right but as the result of a consecrated life. And that same truth applies today to all who have made their lives a continual and sincere offering to God.
1. Prayer: The Key That Activates Protection
“Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer…”
Psalm 86:1 (NLT)
If I want God to listen, I must talk to Him. It’s not about silent wishes but about constant dialogue. God responds to those who pray, who acknowledge their need, and come to Him in humility.
I choose to pray.
I choose to talk to God not just in hard times, but as a way of life.
Prayer doesn’t just change circumstances—it transforms the heart.
2. Protection Through Dedication
“Protect me, for I am devoted to you…”
Psalm 86:2 (NLT)
David bases his request for protection on his personal devotion. Divine protection is not automatic; it is tied to a living, genuine, and constant relationship with God.
• Lord, you know my life.
• You know that my family and I have served you with sincerity of heart.
• We have been devoted to you in both the good and the hard times.
Because of that dedication, I trust that you will continue to protect, guide, and sustain us. You have been faithful, and I know you always will be.
3. Devoted: A Lifestyle, Not an Event
“Protect me, for I am devoted to you…”
Psalm 86:2 (NLT)
Being devoted to God isn’t about attending a service or saying an occasional prayer. It’s a daily commitment, a surrendered heart, a consecrated life.
• It means living with purpose.
• It means choosing God above all else.
• It means saying each day, “Lord, my life is yours.”
True devotion draws the presence of God and His constant protection.
4. Salvation and Trust
“Save me, for I serve you and trust you. You are my God.”
Psalm 86:2 (NLT)
David declares three foundational truths:
• I serve you—not just with words, but with actions.
• I trust you—not in my own strength, but in your faithfulness.
• You are my God—there is no one else I turn to but you.
That declaration is powerful. It is the prayer of someone who has chosen to live for God, to believe in His protection, to rest in His provision, and to walk under His covering.

“Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer; answer me, for I need your help. Protect me, for I am devoted to you. Save me, for I serve you and trust you. You are my God.”

Psalm 86:1–2 (NLT)

Think About It:

  1. Are you praying consistently, or only when things get complicated?
  2. Can you honestly say that your life is truly devoted to God?
  3. Are you fully trusting that God will continue to care for you and your family as He always has?
