Open My Eyes
Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions.
Psalm 119:18 (NLT)
The psalmist was not speaking of physical blindness, but of a deeper need: spiritual vision. Reading the Word of God is not like reading any other book. It requires more than intelligence—it requires revelation. Sometimes we easily understand what we read, but at other times we feel confused or simply cannot grasp God’s message. That is why this verse is a prayer we all need to make each time we open the Bible: “Lord, open my eyes.”
- Natural sight is not enough to understand the spiritual
We may have perfect physical sight and still not understand what God is saying. That is why we ask Him to open our spiritual eyes. We need His light to see beyond the literal. - Asking for revelation is a sign of humility
When we pray, “open my eyes,” we acknowledge that we do not know everything. We show that we depend on God to understand His Word. This humble attitude opens the door to deeper understanding. - The Bible is full of wonderful truths
The psalmist not only asks to understand but to see “wonderful truths.” The Word of God is filled with treasures, wisdom, and promises. Each time we read it, we can discover something that transforms our lives. - God can give us vision for every area of life
We do not only ask to see what is written; we also long for spiritual vision for our family, social life, ministry, and finances. God desires to show us His direction and give us clarity. - True happiness is found in walking in God’s direction
Later, the psalmist declares: “Make me walk along the path of your commands, for that is where my happiness is found” (Psalm 119:35). Understanding the Word leads us to obey it, and obedience brings joy.

Think About It:
• Am I reading the Word with a heart willing to receive revelation, or just out of routine?
• Have I asked the Holy Spirit to help me understand what I read in the Bible?
• In what area of my life do I need God to open my eyes and show me His direction today?
