I Am Not of Those Who Draw Back
But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.
Hebrews 10:39 (NKJV)
The Christian life is not exempt from trials, problems, and moments when it may seem easier to go back than to move forward. However, the Word reminds us that the character of the true child of God is resilient. Our faith pushes us forward, despite adversity, because we have been called not to retreat, but to persevere until the end.
- To draw back is to go backward
Going back means abandoning the vision, surrendering to trials, or settling for what we already had. Retreat does not lead to God’s purpose but to frustration and the loss of what He wants to give us. - Faith sustains me in the midst of trials
Faith is the strength that preserves our soul and helps us move forward when circumstances say otherwise. Through faith we see what does not yet exist and keep walking, trusting that God will fulfill His promises. - To draw back is to give up conquered ground
Whether in the spiritual, family, ministry, or financial areas, yielding ground means losing what God has already given us. Every step taken in obedience is a conquest that we must defend with faith and perseverance. - God calls us to move forward with courage
Scripture encourages us to be strong and courageous, not to be afraid or dismayed, for God is with us (Joshua 1:9 NKJV). Courage is not the absence of fear, but the decision to move forward trusting that the Lord fights our battles. - Resilience is part of the Christian life
It is not about never falling, but about getting up each time, learning from trials, and coming out stronger. The Holy Spirit has given us power, love, and a sound mind to remain firm without looking back (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV).
God’s call for His children is to persevere. We are not of those who draw back, but of those who trust and move forward toward the victory He has already prepared. Our faith drives us to complete what we have begun, knowing that in Christ we can do all things.
But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.

Think About It:
- In what area of your life are you tempted to retreat instead of moving forward in faith?
- What promises of God can you remember today to strengthen your confidence and remain firm?
- What practical steps can you take this week to demonstrate resilience and move forward in your purpose?
