In My Mind and in My Heart
“For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”
Hebrews 8:10 (NKJV)
God does not want His Word to be only information stored in our minds, but a transforming truth written deep within our hearts. In the mind we reason, but in the heart we feel, love, and decide. The Lord desires that His covenant not be merely intellectual knowledge, but a living experience that transforms our actions and the way we love Him.
- The difference between mind and heart
The mind processes logic and reasoning, while the heart is the center of our emotions, decisions, and passions. Knowing God in the mind is an important step, but knowing Him in the heart is what leads us to live what we know. - From theory to practice
Having God’s laws in the mind means knowing what the Bible says, but having them in the heart means obeying them. Faith is not limited to understanding, but to acting according to what we believe. - Faith beyond logic
Many times the mind says, “this is impossible,” but the heart filled with faith responds, “with God nothing will be impossible.” True faith arises when what we know in the mind becomes conviction in the heart. - Loving with mind and heart
Jesus said we must love God with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our mind (Matthew 22:37 NKJV). This means our love for Him must be complete: a conscious, passionate, and practical love. - A covenant written within us
The new covenant does not depend on tablets of stone as at Sinai, but on the work of the Holy Spirit writing God’s Word within us. This reminds us that His will is not only an external command but an internal transformation.
Let us ask the Lord that His truth may not only remain in our mind as information, but also in our heart as passion, decision, and lifestyle.
“For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”
Hebrews 8:10 (NKJV)
Think About It:
- What areas of my life reflect that I only know the Word in my mind, but do not yet live it from the heart?
- In what way can I practice this week what I already know about God?
- Am I loving God with my mind and also with my heart, as a complete and true love?
