Influence

Influence

Dear friend, don’t let this bad example influence you. Follow only what is good. Remember that those who do good prove that they are God’s children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God.
3 John 11 (NLT)

We all influence and are influenced, whether consciously or unconsciously. The Word of God calls us to be intentional in what we imitate and in whom we allow to shape our decisions. In a world saturated with wrong examples, we need to learn to recognize and follow what is good. It’s not about comparing our lives to those of others, but about identifying models that reflect Christ and learning from them. The intentional imitation of what is good strengthens our faith, improves our relationships, and helps us grow in every area of life.

  1. I must choose intentionally whom I imitate
The apostle John warns us not to let ourselves be influenced by what is evil. Influence is not always obvious; that’s why we must be alert and filter everything through the Word. Not everything popular is right, and not everything right is popular.
  2. I can imitate good marriages
If I have seen strong marriages, lasting many years, that have overcome trials with love and respect, I can learn from them. Faithfulness, patience, mutual honor, and commitment are values worth imitating.
  3. I can imitate honest businesspeople
There are people who have prospered without compromising their faith, their family, or their values. They teach us that it is possible to be both successful and spiritual. Observing their discipline, generosity, and balance can inspire us.
  4. I can imitate ministers who finish well
It’s not only about starting with passion, but finishing with integrity. Those who have been constant, faithful, and steadfast in their calling until the end are examples worth following.
  5. Imitating what is good makes me a reflection of God
John says: “Those who do good prove that they are God’s children.” The way we live should reveal to whom we belong. Every decision, every reaction, every step can reflect the character of Christ.

Dear friend, don’t let this bad example influence you. Follow only what is good. Remember that those who do good prove that they are God’s children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God.
3 John 11 (NLT)

Think About It:
• Am I allowing the right people to influence my life?
• What model of faithfulness, integrity, or wisdom can I begin to imitate today?
• Is my life influencing others for good, or am I simply being carried away by what is common?
