No Flies
“If you refuse to let my people go, I will send swarms of flies on you, your officials, your people, and all the houses of Egypt. The Egyptian homes will be filled with flies, and the ground will be covered with them. But on that day I will give special treatment to the land of Goshen, where my people live. No flies will be found there. Then you will know that I am the Lord and that I am present even in the heart of your land. I will make a clear distinction between my people and your people.”
Exodus 8:21-22 (NLT)
In the book of Exodus, while God sent plagues over Egypt to free His people, one detail stands out in a special way: in Goshen, where the Israelites lived, there were no flies. Even though the plague covered the whole nation, the land of God’s people remained protected. This was no coincidence, but a clear display of God’s faithfulness in caring for those who belong to Him.
- God protects the place of His people
Although Egypt was filled with flies, darkness, and plagues, Goshen had none of them. This reminds us that even in the midst of evil and chaos around the world, God has the power to keep our lives, homes, and families in peace. - God makes a distinction between those who are His and those who are not
The protection in Goshen was a sign that God distinguishes His people. It was not because the Israelites were perfect, but because they were His covenant people. Today, in Christ, that same distinction remains: we are set apart for blessing and special care. - Our homes can be clean even if the world is in darkness
While Egyptian houses were infested, the land of Israel was free. In the same way, even if the world is full of violence, family struggles, or economic crises, our homes can be places of light, peace, and provision when they are under the Lord’s covering. - God shows His power in the midst of crises
The plagues were signs of judgment against Egypt, but they were also signs of protection for Israel. In difficult times, God demonstrates His power not only in confronting evil but also in preserving His people. - God’s faithfulness should bring peace to our hearts
Knowing that God is able to protect us just as He protected Goshen invites us to live without fear. Even if the world is filled with “flies,” our trust is in the God who guards us.
The world may be filled with darkness and evil, but those who trust in the Lord can declare that their homes will be full of light, spiritual, family, social, and financial health.

Think About It:
- In what ways have you seen God make a distinction between your life and the world’s?
- What areas of your home need to be covered in prayer to keep them “free of flies”?
- Are you trusting in God’s care or living in fear of what is happening around you?
