When He Received the Message

When He Received the Message

So they sent this message to Joseph: “Before your father died, he instructed us to say to you: ‘Please forgive your brothers for the great wrong they did to you—for their sin in treating you so cruelly.’ So we, the servants of the God of your father, beg you to forgive our sin.” When Joseph received the message, he broke down and wept.
Genesis 50:16-17 (NLT)

The moment Joseph heard his brothers ask for forgiveness was so impactful that he could not hold back his tears. It was not just a phrase, but an acknowledgment of the pain they had caused him. That message did not erase what had been lived, but it did open the door to inner healing. Forgiveness, both in giving it and receiving it, becomes a balm that frees the heart and restores what once seemed impossible.

Just as Joseph experienced healing when he heard the message from his brothers, we too can experience restoration when we ask for forgiveness and when we receive it. True victory is not in remembering the harm but in allowing forgiveness to set us free.

Think About It:

  1. What impact would it have on your life to hear a “forgive me” from someone who hurt you?
  2. Is there someone you need to ask for forgiveness in order to bring healing to their heart?
  3. How can you practice forgiveness in your family, work, or ministry this week?
