Between Sowing and Harvest

Between Sowing and Harvest

“You know the saying, ‘Four months between planting and harvest.’ But I say, wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest.” John 4:35 (NLT)

In this passage, Jesus takes a familiar agricultural saying to teach us two vital lessons. On one hand, He acknowledges the natural process we all know: there is always a waiting period between planting a seed and gathering the fruit. But at the same time, He gives us an urgent spiritual command: to awaken to a divine reality where the harvest is not future but present—ready to be gathered now.

There is a harvest that requires patience—the fruit of what we have sown with discipline. But there is another harvest that requires only our obedience and awakening. For those who are attentive and willing to live with purpose, there are spiritual and material harvests that God will release this year.

Think About It:

  1. In what area where you have “sown” (marriage, work, ministry) do you need to exercise more patience, trusting God’s process?
  2. What does “waking up” mean for you today? From what distraction or passivity is God calling you to rise?
  3. Where can you see “ripe fields” around you (friends, family) that need you to take the initiative to harvest?
