Let Us Keep Being Slaves
Didn’t we tell you this would happen while we were still in Egypt? We said, “Leave us alone! Let us be slaves to the Egyptians. It’s better to be a slave in Egypt than a corpse in the wilderness!”
Exodus 14:12 (NLT)
This passage reflects the moment when Israel, facing an enormous challenge, allowed fear to cloud their thinking. After witnessing miracles and signs, they reacted with desperation and spoke illogical words, wishing to return to slavery rather than face the unknown. Stress and fear led them to think irrationally, just as it often happens to us when we are under pressure or uncertainty.
- Fear can make us prefer slavery over freedom
Many people remain bound to habits, sin, addictions, or poverty because fear convinces them it is “safer” to stay where they are than to move toward what God has promised. - The brain under stress can betray us
In moments of crisis we respond by fighting, fleeing, or freezing. That emotional paralysis can lead us to decisions that go against God’s will. - Fear can stop our progress
It can keep us from investing, marrying, starting something new, preaching, or responding to God’s call. Fear steals opportunities and extinguishes spiritual courage. - God calls us to act humanly and trust that He will fight for us
Our role is to obey and move forward; God’s role is to open paths, defend us, and give us victory. - We were not called to be slaves to fear, but servants of Christ
We belong to Him alone. We are children, not slaves. A mindset of freedom is necessary to walk in purpose.
Today we decide not to allow fear to rule us. We will do what belongs to us and believe that God will fight for us. We refuse to return to the slavery of fear and we affirm our identity in Christ. He is with us, guiding and sustaining us.
Didn’t we tell you this would happen while we were still in Egypt? We said, “Leave us alone! Let us be slaves to the Egyptians. It’s better to be a slave in Egypt than a corpse in the wilderness!”
Exodus 14:12 (NLT)
Think About It:
- What area of your life is still tied to fear and needs freedom?
- What decision have you postponed because you fear failure or loss?
- What human step do you need to take today, trusting that God will fight for you?
