To Whom Did God Make This Promise?

To Whom Did God Make This Promise?

I will cause your descendants to become as numerous as the stars of the sky, and I will give them all these lands. And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed. Genesis 26:4 (NLT)

When reading this incredible promise in Genesis 26, the question naturally arises: To whom exactly was God speaking? Was it Abraham? Was it Isaac? Or was it Jacob?

The answer is: to all three. God made sure to repeat this monumental promise to each generation. This teaches us a powerful principle: what is important must be repeated to reaffirm vision and ensure the promise passes from generation to generation.

In the end, he lifted a banner bearing the name of God—our generational God.

God is faithful to His promises, and it is our responsibility to repeat them. What matters must be repeated. God’s vision must be repeated so it can pass from one generation to the next.

I will cause your descendants to become as numerous as the stars of the sky, and I will give them all these lands. And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed. Genesis 26:4 (NLT)

Think About It:

  1. What promises from God do you need to “repeat” over your life and family so they become firmly established in your heart?

  2. How are you passing on God’s “vision” (your faith, your values) to the next generation in your home or in the church?

  3. Are you honoring the generation that came before you, recognizing the promise they received and that you now carry?
