A Man of Courage
The angel of the Lord appeared to him and said, “Mighty hero, the Lord is with you!”
Judges 6:12 (NLT)
The story of Gideon shows us how God sees beyond what we see. While Gideon was hiding in fear, God was already declaring his identity and his future. God’s call was not based on Gideon’s present circumstances, but on what God knew he could become through His power.
- God sees potential where others see fear
Gideon was hiding wheat just to survive, but God called him a “mighty hero.” The Lord did not define Gideon by his momentary fear, but by the purpose He had placed within him. - Low self-esteem does not cancel God’s calling
Gideon saw himself as small, weak, and insignificant. However, God did not agree with that narrative. Our background, wounds, or insecurities do not disqualify what God wants to do through us. - An encounter with God transforms identity
Everything changed when Gideon had an encounter with the angel of the Lord. A real experience with God heals, frees, empowers, and changes the way we see ourselves and the future. - God uses what I have, not what I lack
God did not ask Gideon for something he did not have. He told him, “Go with the strength you have.” When we place what little or much we have into God’s hands, He takes care of the rest. - God’s power activates faith and obedience
Gideon’s strength was not found in his human ability, but in God’s presence with him. When we believe what God says about us, we dare to take steps of faith that once seemed impossible.
God is still calling ordinary people today to do extraordinary things. It is not about how strong you feel, but about who is with you. When God calls you, He also supports you and empowers you to fulfill His purpose.

Think About It:
- How am I seeing myself, and how is God seeing me?
- What fears or insecurities do I need to surrender into the Lord’s hands today?
- What step of faith can I take using the strength I have today, trusting that God will do the rest?
