Grow Continually
Commit yourself to instruction; listen carefully to words of knowledge. Proverbs 23:12 (NLT)
God calls us to a life of constant growth. The Christian life is not static, but a continuous process of transformation, learning, and maturity. This verse shows us that growth begins with a decision: to dedicate the heart and ears to instruction. That is, we must have the internal disposition to learn and the external discipline to listen. When we adopt this attitude, we open the door to a life of wisdom and blessing.
- Growth begins in the heart The verse says, “Commit yourself to instruction.” This means that growth is not just an intellectual matter, but a spiritual one. When our heart is willing, we are sensitive to God’s correction, guidance, and teaching. A willing heart is fertile ground where God can shape our character.
- Growth requires learning to listen We are also instructed to listen carefully to words of knowledge. Listening is fundamental to growth. This includes listening to God’s Word, wise counsel, and the direction of the Holy Spirit. Whoever learns to listen, learns to grow.
- Growth is a daily decision No one grows by accident. Growth happens when we daily decide to seek God, read His Word, and apply His principles. Each day is a new opportunity to learn something that strengthens our faith and draws us closer to Him.
- Growth produces spiritual maturity When we grow in knowledge and wisdom, our way of thinking, speaking, and acting changes. We begin to reflect the character of Christ in our daily lives. Spiritual maturity allows us to face challenges with faith, patience, and trust in God.
- Growth prepares us for God’s purpose God uses people who are growing. Every teaching we receive and every lesson we learn prepares us to fulfill the purpose He has designed for our lives. Growth not only benefits us but also those who will be blessed through us.
God desires that we never stop growing. No matter how much we have advanced, there is always more to learn, more to develop, and more to experience in our relationship with Him. Keep your heart willing and your ears attentive, because continuous growth is the path to a full and useful life in God’s hands.

Think About It:
- Do I have a heart willing to receive instruction and correction from God?
- Am I dedicating time to listen and learn from God’s Word?
- What area of my life needs to grow spiritually right now?
