If God Commands It, Then I Don’t Need to Understand It
“So Abram departed as the LORD had instructed, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran.”
Genesis 12:4 (NLT)
Abram didn’t have the full map, but he did have a clear word from God — and that was enough. Many times we want to understand every detail before we move, but in the Kingdom of God, obedience doesn’t always come after explanation; it comes after conviction. When the Lord speaks, He doesn’t only inform us — He guides us. And when He chooses to guide us, He invites us to walk by faith, trusting that He will show the way as we move forward.
- Obedience doesn’t require total clarity — it requires total trust
Abram didn’t know everything that was coming, but he knew who was calling him. God doesn’t ask us to understand everything in order to obey Him; He asks us to trust His character. Faith is activated when we take the step even with questions, because we believe God is good and faithful. - When God speaks, the right step is to move, not to get stuck
Immediate obedience is evidence that God’s voice carries more weight than our fears. Many blessings are on the other side of an obedient “yes.” If we wait until we feel ready, we may never leave Haran. But when we obey, God confirms on the journey what He promised in His Word. - God’s big dreams force us to depend on Him
If the plan fits perfectly within our own strength, maybe we don’t need faith. But when God calls us to something bigger than us, we can’t move forward without His help. That is intentional: God wants to be first, not the last resort. What begins in God is sustained by God. - Human logic cannot be the main filter for a divine instruction
Some instructions from God will not pass the test of our reasoning, because the human mind only understands what is visible, but God works from eternity. If Abram had filtered God’s voice through comfort or age, he never would have left. Sometimes obedience isn’t “the most logical,” but it is always the safest when God has spoken. - Discerning God’s voice requires humility and spiritual sensitivity
We must learn to separate our thoughts, emotions, and fears from the direction of the Holy Spirit. That’s why prayer is not a ritual — it’s a posture of the heart: “Lord, speak, for Your servant is listening.” When God leads, He brings peace, conviction, and direction. And when we obey, our faith matures.
Today God is still calling His church to walk by faith. You may not understand the process, but you can trust the Lord who is directing it. If God has spoken to you, don’t stop while waiting for perfect explanations — take the step. He will show the way as you move forward. Obedience opens doors that doubt will never open, and the God who calls you is the same God who sustains you.

Think About It:
- What has God asked you to do that you have postponed because you want to understand everything first?
- What “Haran” do you need to leave behind to walk toward what God promised you?
- This week, what practical step of obedience can you take to put God first?
