Pride Breaks You
“Whoever is stubborn and refuses to accept criticism will suddenly be destroyed beyond recovery.”
Proverbs 29:1 (NLT)
Pride is one of the most dangerous traps because it doesn’t always show up at first. Sometimes it disguises itself as “a strong personality,” “that’s just how I am,” or “no one is going to tell me what to do.” But the Bible is clear: when a person becomes hardened and rejects correction, they are walking toward a fall. God is not trying to humiliate us — He is trying to save us. That’s why He allows warnings, advice, wake-up calls, and correction… because He wants to spare us from a greater breaking.

When pride rules, we stop listening. We no longer learn, reflect, or change. A hardened heart becomes resistant to the voice of God, and that is dangerous, because God always speaks to guide us and protect us. - Rejecting correction speeds up destruction
Proverbs says the one who refuses criticism will be suddenly destroyed. It’s not that God enjoys breaking someone — it’s that pride leads us into decisions that break us. Correction is an emergency exit, but the proud ignore it until it’s too late. - Stubbornness leaves you beyond recovery
Scripture says “beyond recovery” because there comes a point when the damage is deep: broken relationships, lost opportunities, accumulated consequences. Not because God cannot restore, but because the person refuses to surrender. Pride doesn’t only wound — it delays and traps. - Humility protects you and keeps you steady
Humility is not weakness — it is wisdom. It is recognizing, “I could be wrong,” “I need help,” “I want to grow.” A humble heart stays teachable, and that is why God sustains it, guides it, and lifts it up. - God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble
When someone exalts themselves, they place themselves in opposition to God’s work in their life. But when someone humbles themselves, God pours out grace. And grace is power to change, to heal, and to move forward. Where there is humility, there is growth; where there is pride, there is breaking.
Today the Lord is calling us to examine our hearts. Don’t wait for pride to break you in order to learn. Learn sooner. Surrender sooner. Listen sooner. Correction is God’s gift to your life because He wants to see you steady, healthy, and walking in His purpose. Don’t cling to being right — cling to being transformed.
