Run with Purpose
So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing.
1 Corinthians 9:26 (NLT)
The Christian life is not a walk without direction, but a race with a clear destination. The apostle Paul understood that his life had an eternal purpose, and for that reason he lived with discipline, focus, and determination. God has also called us to live intentionally, not wasting our strength on what does not edify, but advancing firmly toward the purpose He has prepared for us.
- Living with purpose requires clear direction
Paul says that he runs “with purpose in every step.” This means he knew where he was going. As believers, our direction is Christ. When we know our purpose in God, our decisions, priorities, and actions align with His will, preventing us from living without direction. - Purpose helps us avoid distractions
When Paul mentions that he is not shadowboxing, he refers to not wasting his energy in vain. Many believers live spiritually exhausted because they invest their time in things that do not produce eternal fruit. Living with purpose allows us to focus our strength on what truly matters. - Running with purpose requires spiritual discipline
No one runs a race without preparation. Prayer, reading the Word, and obedience are disciplines that strengthen our spiritual life. These practices help us remain firm, focused, and persevering, even when we face difficulties. - Purpose gives us perseverance in the midst of challenges
When we know why we run, we do not give up easily. Trials, obstacles, and difficulties do not stop us, because we understand there is a greater goal. Purpose gives us the motivation to keep moving forward with faith and determination. - Our goal is to please God
The ultimate purpose of our race is not human recognition, but to please the Lord. Living with purpose means living for His glory, knowing that every step of obedience has eternal value.
God did not call you to live an empty or directionless life. He called you to run with purpose, with focus, and with faith. Every day is an opportunity to advance toward His will, growing, maturing, and fulfilling the calling He has placed in your life. Do not waste your race; run with the confidence that God walks with you and strengthens you.
So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing.

Think About It:
- Am I living each day with a purpose aligned with God’s will?
- What distractions do I need to remove to run my spiritual race with greater focus?
- What spiritual discipline can I strengthen today to move forward more firmly toward my purpose?
