The Leader Serves
But among you it will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant. Who is more important, the one who sits at the table or the one who serves? The one who sits at the table, of course. But not here! For I am among you as one who serves. Luke 22:26-27 (NLT)
In the Kingdom of God, leadership is not defined by position, authority, or recognition, but by service. Jesus, the greatest example of leadership, did not come to be served, but to serve. He taught His disciples that true leadership is born from a humble heart willing to put the needs of others above one’s own. This principle completely transforms our perspective on what it means to be a leader.
- Leadership begins with humility Jesus taught that the most important must take the lowest place. This means that the true leader does not exalt himself, but recognizes that his position is an opportunity to serve. Humility allows God to use our lives in a powerful way.
- Leadership is not about position, but about service The world teaches that the leader is the one in command, but Jesus teaches that the leader is the one who serves. Leadership in the Kingdom of God consists of helping, supporting, and building others up. It is not about having authority over people, but about caring for them.
- Leadership follows the example of Jesus Jesus said, “I am among you as one who serves.” He not only taught service, but He lived it. His example shows us that true leadership is demonstrated with actions, not just with words.
- Leadership seeks the growth of others A leader who serves does not seek his own benefit, but the well-being of others. He invests in people, guides them, and helps them grow. Service is a tool that God uses to shape and strengthen others.
- Leadership that serves pleases God When we serve with a sincere heart, we honor God. He blesses and lifts up those who are willing to serve with love and faithfulness. Service is an expression of our love and obedience to the Lord.
God calls us to lead with the heart of a servant. No matter where you are, there will always be an opportunity to serve. When you decide to serve others with humility, you reflect the character of Christ and become an instrument of blessing in His hands.
