Be an Example Even if You Are Young
Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity. 1 Timothy 4:12 (NLT)
In the culture of biblical times, as in many societies today, age was directly associated with authority and wisdom. The young Timothy faced the challenge of leading a church with people much older than himself, which could generate insecurity or a lack of respect from the congregation. The apostle Paul, as a wise mentor, reveals to him that true spiritual authority does not emanate from years lived, but from the quality of character. For our church, this message is a call to the new generations: your age is not a limitation to being used by God, as long as your life is an upright reflection of the values of the Kingdom.
- Conduct in speaking Being an example “in what you say” implies that our words must be seasoned with grace and truth. The maturity of a young person is first noticed in their vocabulary, avoiding complaining, gossip, or flippancy, and using their tongue to edify those who listen.
- Consistency in the way of living Public testimony is the basis of influence. It is not about what we do inside the temple, but how we conduct ourselves at university, work, or on social media. A life consistent with biblical principles silences any criticism based on a lack of experience.
- The strength of love and faith Love must be the engine of every service, and faith the shield against attacks. Paul encourages Timothy to show a real commitment to the well-being of others and an immovable trust in God, demonstrating that the passion of youth can be directed by the solidity of the Spirit.
- The shield of purity In a world that pressures young people toward immediate gratification and moral impurity, the believer stands out when they guard their heart and body for the Lord. Purity is a form of self-respect and honor to God that grants unshakeable moral authority before any audience.
Your youth is not a waiting stage for the future, but an opportunity for service in the present. God does not look for people with extensive resumes, but for hearts willing to be models of His grace. By living with integrity, love, and purity, you become a living sermon that inspires the older and guides the younger. Do not accept the contempt of the world or hide behind the excuse of inexperience; rise today as a benchmark of what Christ can do in a life that surrenders totally to Him, no matter how many years it has.

- What concrete actions can you take today so that no one has reason to look down on your leadership or your faith?
- Look for an older brother or sister in the faith to be your mentor and, at the same time, identify someone younger to whom you can begin to set a good example.
