Honor your parents’ instruction

Honor your parents’ instruction

My child, listen when your father corrects you. Don’t neglect your mother’s instruction. What you learn from them will crown you with grace and be a chain of honor around your neck. Proverbs 1:8-9

Family is the first school of life and the fundamental design that God established to transmit wisdom and protection. In a world that often promotes absolute independence and rebellion as signs of freedom, the Bible calls us back to the heart of the home. King Solomon teaches us that correction and instruction from parents are not chains that limit us, but ornaments that beautify us. For the Church, honoring parents is not just a moral commandment, but a spiritual strategy that prepares us to receive God’s authority and grants us a special distinction before others.

Honoring our parents is the first step toward walking in God’s blessing. Regardless of our age, the principles of justice and faith we receive from them are treasures that we must protect and transmit. If your parents instructed you in the way of the Lord, you have an immense spiritual advantage; if they did not, you can become the generation that starts this cycle of honor. By paying attention to wise instruction, you are allowing the Lord to place upon you a crown of favor that will open doors and give you an irreproachable testimony in all areas of your life.

My child, listen when your father corrects you. Don’t neglect your mother’s instruction. What you learn from them will crown you with grace and be a chain of honor around your neck. Proverbs 1:8-9

Think About It:

  1. What advice or instruction from your parents have you ignored lately that you could take up again to improve your current situation?
  2. How can you demonstrate honor to your parents today, regardless of whether you agree with all of their opinions?
  3. If you are a parent, what kind of “instruction and correction” are you sowing in your children today so that tomorrow it may be their crown of grace?
