Avoiding Useless Strife

Avoiding Useless Strife

It is honorable for a man to stop striving, since any fool can start a quarrel. Proverbs 20:3

In a world that often confuses aggressiveness with strength and stubbornness with conviction, God’s wisdom calls us to a higher standard. As the Church, we must understand that our energy and our time are sacred resources that should not be wasted on purposeless conflicts. Useless strife not only steals our peace but also tarnishes our testimony before others. The Apostle Paul reminded us that the Lord’s servant must not be litigious; on the contrary, true honor is not found in winning every argument, but in having the self-control necessary to withdraw from a fight that neither edifies nor honors the Father.

True Christian victory is often manifested in silence and prudence. Do not allow wounded pride to push you into participating in endless debates or in quarrels that only feed the flesh. Seek today to be a peacemaker, someone who de-escalates conflict with a soft word or a strategic withdrawal. By choosing peace over strife, you are reflecting the character of Christ and positioning yourself in a place of honor in the eyes of God. Remember that the peace you keep in your heart is much more valuable than any temporary triumph in a useless argument.

It is honorable for a man to stop striving, since any fool can start a quarrel. Proverbs 20:3

Think About It:

  1. Which frequent discussions in your daily life are truly useless and are only stealing your spiritual peace?
  2. How can you react with wisdom the next time someone tries to drag you into an unnecessary contention?
  3. Ask the Lord for forgiveness if you have allowed pride to make you insist on fights that have damaged your relationships, and commit to seeking peace starting today.
