God First and Then Your Work
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Matthew 6:33 NLT
In the fast-paced rhythm of today’s society, it is very easy to fall into the trap of believing that our well-being and that of our family depend exclusively on how many hours we dedicate to our professional work. Many Christians live under constant stress, relegating their spiritual life to the spaces left over after an exhausting day. However, God’s design for provision is not based on unbridled activism, but on a hierarchy of priorities where He occupies the throne. When we reverse the order and put work as the center of our security, we end up exhausted and disconnected from the source of true peace.
- Identify the source of provision We must remember that employment is only the channel, but God is the source. If work becomes our only priority, we are turning a blessing into an idol. Recognizing that everything we have comes from His hand allows us to work with excellence but without anxiety.
- The promise of the addition Jesus does not ask us to neglect our responsibilities, but to focus our energy on His kingdom. The promise is clear: when the Kingdom is the priority, material needs cease to be a burden to become divine management. God makes himself responsible for the needs of the one who makes himself responsible for His affairs.
- The danger of self-sufficiency Trusting more in our skills or in the stability of a company than in the word of God is a path to frustration. The Bible teaches us that working hard is good, but working without God is vanity. True prosperity includes emotional and spiritual health, something that a salary alone cannot buy.
- Living a righteous life in the work environment Putting God first also involves how we behave while we work. Leading a righteous life means being upright, honest, and diligent, reflecting the character of Christ before our bosses and colleagues. Our work ethic is one of the most powerful ways to preach the Gospel.
Living with the correct priority requires a daily act of faith. It means that, even if the schedule is full, there will be a non-negotiable time for prayer and the Word. It means that, faced with an economic decision, we will first consult the Father’s will. By aligning our heart with His, we will discover that rest is not the absence of work, but the presence of His peace in the midst of our labors. Do not let the urgent steal the important from you; trust that the Owner of the gold and the silver will take care of you while you take care of being an ambassador of His Kingdom.
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Matthew 6:33 NLT
Think About It:
- In what areas of your work life have you been trusting more in your own strength than in God’s provision?
- What practical changes can you make in your weekly schedule to ensure that the Kingdom of God is your number one priority?
- Make a list of the concerns that rob you of peace today and hand them over in prayer, declaring that God is in control of your needs.
