The Man as the Priest of His Home

The Man as the Priest of His Home

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord. Ephesians 6:4 NLT

In God’s original design for the family, man has been called to exercise a fundamental role that goes beyond material provision: that of being the priest of his home. This title does not imply a dictatorial authority, but a responsibility of service, covering, and spiritual guidance. Being the priest means being the bridge that connects his family with the presence of God, interceding for his wife and children and establishing an atmosphere where the character of Christ is the model to follow. Unfortunately, many men have delegated this function to mothers or the church, leaving a void of spiritual leadership that exposes the family to the currents of the world.

Priesthood in the home is a call to constant presence and personal sacrifice. It requires the man to surrender his own desires to seek first the eternal well-being of his own. It is not a heavy burden when we understand that we have the backing of the Heavenly Father, who enables us to be reflections of His grace. A home with an active priest is a home with direction, purpose, and peace. Today is the time for every man to assume his place, take his Bible, bend his knees, and guide his loved ones toward the fullness found only in Christ Jesus.
