A Life That Pleases God in Difficult Times

In the midst of the challenges and crises we face today, society is often clearly divided. On one hand, we find people who desperately seek more of God, longing for His direction and His presence to sustain them. On the other hand, we see many who persist in living apart from Him, trusting in their own strength or ignoring His will. As a church, this passage confronts us and invites us to deeply review our spiritual posture. We cannot let ourselves be dragged by the current of corruption or indifference that surrounds us; we are called to be that generation that decides to do what is pleasing in the eyes of the Lord, regardless of the adverse environment we have to go through.
- The personal decision to please God Faithfulness to God is never an accident, but a deliberate daily choice. Jotham decided to walk in righteousness even though his own father had stumbled with pride and the society around him was corrupted. Our obedience to the Lord must not be conditioned by the behavior of the majority, but by our conviction to honor Him at all times.
- Learning from the successes and avoiding the mistakes of the past The text points out that Jotham imitated the good of his father Uzziah, but surely he learned from the consequences of his arrogance. As children of God, we must imitate the good examples of faith that precede us and, at the same time, be wise not to repeat the stumbling blocks that brought ruin to others. Spiritual maturity involves clearly discerning which paths we should follow.
- Standing firm against the social current Jotham’s environment was marked by corrupt practices that dragged the nation down, but he stood firm in his integrity. In current times, the pressure to yield to the values of the world is constant and subtle. Our faith is tested when we decide to swim against the current, defending the principles of the Kingdom of Heaven even if the rest of society chooses a different path.
- The responsibility to be light in the midst of crisis When the people around us persist in living away from God, our attitude should not be one of judgment, but a living testimony. The church is called to reflect the character of Christ with concrete actions of love, justice, and truth. A life that pleases God becomes a beacon of hope for those who still walk in darkness.
Walking in the way that pleases the Lord in difficult times requires courage, daily dependence on His Spirit, and an unwavering commitment to His truth. Although the society around us chooses indifference or corruption, each of us has the opportunity to make a difference by surrendering our heart to the Father. True spiritual success is not measured by the approval of the crowds, but by the peace of knowing that our actions make God’s heart smile. Let us stand firm in the gap, being faithful to the end.
