The Painful Consequences of Turning Away
“So now the LORD is about to strike you, your people, your children, your wives, and everything you own with a heavy blow.”

King Jehoram took the throne of Judah, completely distancing himself from the godly legacy of his father Jehoshaphat. Upon taking control, he committed deplorable acts to consolidate his power, leading the people into idolatry and turning his back on the Lord’s commandment. Faced with such disobedience and stubbornness, God sent him a forceful message through the prophet Elijah to warn him of impending judgment. This biblical account makes it clear that deliberately straying from the divine will breaks our covering of protection and exposes us to highly destructive consequences.

The story of Jehoram serves as a sober reminder of the aftermath that comes from turning one’s back on the living God. True freedom is not found in doing our own will apart from biblical commandments, but in remaining under the Lord’s covering and love. Choosing to walk in continuous obedience frees us from self-inflicted pain and secures for us a life grounded in enduring grace and blessing.
