Awe

Throughout the Christian life we run a silent but very dangerous risk: getting used to the sacred things of God and losing the ability to marvel at His presence. When we first meet Christ, everything thrills us and fills us with gratitude, but as the years go by, the daily rush, everyday responsibilities, and even serving in the church can make us take the supernatural for granted. In this passage, we see how the crowd, upon seeing Jesus arrive, did not react with apathy or religious indifference, but their hearts were shaken with awe and they ran enthusiastically to meet Him.
- Keep the awe for God’s love and forgiveness We must never allow the grace of God to become something common or routine in our minds. Knowing that the Creator of the universe loved us when we were lost, paid for our guilt on the cross, and forgave us completely should always shake the deepest part of our being. When a believer stops being amazed at being saved, their heart begins to grow cold and filled with spiritual pride.
- Maintain expectation before His supernatural power God continues to be a God of miracles, healings, and radical transformations. We cannot fall into the trap of witnessing answered prayers, testimonies of family restoration, and miracles in the congregation as if they were simple coincidences. Keeping awe alive awakens an expectant faith that leads us to pray boldly for the sick and to believe that nothing is impossible for God.
- Overcome familiarity in the life of prayer and worship Entering the presence of God in our daily appointment or in the Sunday service cannot be a mechanical act or a calendar commitment. When we approach the Lord recognizing His greatness, His majesty, and His holiness, the time alone with Him becomes the most fascinating moment of the day. Whoever loses awe in prayer ends up praying empty words; whoever keeps awe worships with all their heart.
- Run toward Jesus with a grateful heart The crowd did not just stay watching from afar, but ran immediately toward Jesus. True awe always produces movement, breaks spiritual laziness, and drives us to seek His face without reservation. When we are truly amazed by who He is, no distraction of this world can stop us from surrendering our lives, our talents, and our resources to Him.
It is time to make a sincere pause before the Lord and check the state of our heart. We were not called to live a boring, cold, or theoretical faith, but a living, dynamic relationship full of reverence before the almighty God. Let us ask the Holy Spirit today to renew our spiritual sensitivity, to cleanse every trace of apathy, and to ignite in us once again that passion that makes us run toward Christ, amazed by His infinite goodness.
