The Foundation for Being a Rich Person
There once was a man named Job who lived in the land of Uz. He was blameless—a man of complete integrity. He feared God and stayed away from evil. Job 1:1 NLT
The book of Job presents us with a man who owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, and many servants, actually being the richest person in that entire region. However, the real question is what it takes to be a healthily rich person and what is the foundation so that riches do not ruin someone. Throughout life, we can see too many examples of people who go to ruin when an abundance of money arrives, but there are also others who have remained successful, healthy, and upright. The answer is found in character; a God-fearing character is the fundamental basis so that He can entrust us with an abundance of spiritual and material resources and wealth.
- Being a blameless person This is the first of the four qualities we must cultivate in our character. For God to entrust us with success, we must strive to live in such a way that our daily actions are transparent and there are no valid reasons for reproach against us within our home or in society.
- Walking in complete integrity Integrity was another key quality in Job’s life. Being people of integrity implies being the same person in public and in private, making honest decisions in our businesses and jobs, proving that our heart is truly trustworthy before the Lord.
- Having a profound fear of God The fear of God is an indispensable foundation. This reverent respect protects us from taking the wrong paths and is the spiritual guarantee to be able to handle prosperity without our hearts deviating or being corrupted by materialism.
- Staying away from evil The Bible teaches us that Job stayed away from evil, which helps us understand that staying out of trouble is not something automatic, but entirely intentional. We will always have the opportunity to sin and cheat in life, so walking away from those temptations is a daily decision we must consciously make.
To experience true and lasting success, we need to ask God to examine our hearts and help us correct any wrong path. In a world where daily pressure pushes us to be like everyone else, we need His supernatural grace to act against the natural tendency and maintain our integrity. If we decide to present ourselves before Him with reverent fear and cultivate these four qualities in our character, we will be preparing the perfect foundation for the Lord to entrust us with His greatest blessings without them destroying us.
