Your Pain Can Comfort Others

Your Pain Can Comfort Others

He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. 2 Corinthians 1:4 NLT

As he begins his second letter to the believers in Corinth, the apostle Paul opens his heart with extraordinary transparency to share the severe trials and afflictions he faced in Asia. Far from hiding his moments of weakness or complaining bitterly about his suffering, the apostle teaches the church that God is the inexhaustible source of all comfort and mercy. Paul explains that difficulties do not happen to destroy us, nor are they meaningless coincidences, but they are processes permitted by the Lord so that we abandon self-sufficiency, learn to depend fully on the power of the resurrection, and develop a compassionate heart capable of accompanying and restoring others going through similar circumstances.

Do not waste your pain or lock yourself in the bitterness of difficult seasons. Surrender your anxieties before the Lord, allow Him to bandage your wounds with His love, and rise up with renewed faith, ready to be that refuge, that voice of encouragement, and that helping hand that shows your surroundings that for God there is no lost cause.

He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. 2 Corinthians 1:4 NLT

Think About It:
Have you been trying to overcome your current difficulties in your own strength or have you placed your total trust in the all-powerful God?
In what ways can you use the painful experiences that God has already healed in your past to encourage and bring hope to someone in your family, workplace, or church?
What concrete step of accompaniment or prayer can you take today to reach out and comfort a brother or sister who is going through a heavy trial?
