“Speak to Aaron, and say to him, ‘When you arrange the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light in front of the lampstand.’”
Numbers 8:2 (NKJV)

When God instructed Aaron on how to set the lamps, it was not a random detail. The orientation of the light had a purpose: it had to shine forward. This teaches us a powerful truth for our spiritual life: the Christian is not called to live anchored in the past, but to walk with vision toward the future under God’s light.

  • Look forward and not to the past
Mistakes, failures, and wounds from yesterday must not become chains that hold us back. Paul understood this when he said: “forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead” (Philippians 3:13 NKJV). To move forward, we must release what is behind.
  • The light that shines is vision
Shining forward means planning, preparing, and walking with purpose. The future must not be left to chance; it requires vision and God’s direction to clearly see the path.
  • Success is built with divine direction
It is not only about human effort, but about depending on the Word. It is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105 NKJV). It is the guide that prevents us from stumbling and leads us safely.
  • Be a light in a dark world
Jesus said: “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14 NKJV). Our lives must reflect the light of Christ shining forward, inspiring others to walk in faith, hope, and purpose.
  • God’s vision is greater than ours
When we decide that our light aligns with His, we not only walk securely, but we also help illuminate the path for those coming behind us.

Moving forward requires faith, vision, and dependence on the Word of God. He equips us not to live trapped in what was, but to project ourselves toward what is to come.

“Speak to Aaron, and say to him, ‘When you arrange the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light in front of the lampstand.’”
Numbers 8:2 (NKJV)

Think About It:

  • What things from the past do you need to release to move forward into what God has for you?
  • Are you planning your future under God’s direction or leaving everything to chance?
  • How can you be a light that shines forward in your family, your church, and your community?
