A clear distinction

A CLEAR DISTINCTION

“If you refuse, then I will send swarms of flies on you, your officials, your people, and all the houses. The Egyptian homes will be filled with flies, and the ground will be covered with them. But this time I will spare the region of Goshen, where my people live. No flies will be found there. Then you will know that I am the Lord and that I am present even in the heart of your land. I will make a clear distinction between my people and your people. This miraculous sign will happen tomorrow.” (Exodus 8:21-23 NLT)

In the Bible we see the story of when God sent different plagues to Egypt so Pharaoh would let his people go. This verse speaks of when he sent flies, but there was a clear distinction between what God did with the Egyptians and with his children.

The Egyptian’s homes were filled with flies. The floor was covered in them, rooms filled with the sound of them flying, the kitchens and dining rooms were unusable, and the people were hungry and disgusted at the same time.

But, in the region where the people of God lived, there was cleanliness, food, and peace.

That is how the world is nowadays. Homes and workplaces are filled with flies that represent evil. Flies refer to the things that steal peace in marriages and in families.

Flies refer to the disgust that some people feel toward their world. They lose hope and end up killing themselves or losing themselves in alcohol because they feel hopeless.

But there is also a place where a huge difference is noticeable: church, God’s family.

In our homes, the flies that are gross spirits and emotional filth have been thrown out of our lives.

The darkness in the windows caused by flies have been replaced by the light of Christ in our homes.

The world can be “bad-smelling” because of all the flies, but there will always be a difference in the people of God.

… But this time I will spare the region of Goshen, where my people live. No flies will be found there. Then you will know that I am the Lord and that I am present even in the heart of your land. I will make a clear distinction between my people and your people. This miraculous sign will happen tomorrow.” (Exodus 8:21-23 NLT)

Think about it:

In what area of your life do you feel like there are many flies?
Are you already a child of God? Have you given your life to Christ?
What differences has God made in your life ever since you have given your life to Jesus?
