Wisdom and Discretion
Esther had not revealed her people or family, for Mordecai had charged her not to reveal it.
Esther 2:10 (NKJV)
This verse reveals a powerful principle that often gets overlooked in a culture where everything is shared with everyone: discretion. Esther was wise to follow Mordecai’s counsel—not because she had something to hide, but because she understood that there is a right time and the right people to share certain parts of our story with. In a world where everything is posted, commented on, and exposed, God reminds us that speaking less can also be a sign of maturity. It’s not about living with fear, but with discernment. Not everyone needs to know everything about you.
• Discretion protects what is valuable
Not revealing everything to everyone is not hypocrisy—it’s wisdom. Just as Esther guarded her background, we too must learn when to speak and when to stay silent.
• Not every audience is suitable for every kind of information
Crowds don’t always have the maturity to handle our struggles or our blessings. Some may criticize our weaknesses, others may envy our victories.
• God calls us to have circles of trust, not crowds of opinions
Even Jesus had many followers, but only three saw both His glory on the mount of transfiguration and His sorrow in Gethsemane. That shows us that even transparency comes with levels of access.
• Accountability is healthy—but it must be intentional
Having people to open your heart to is vital, but those people must be chosen with prayer, wisdom, and spiritual maturity. It’s not about hiding, but about protecting what matters most.
• Speaking less can also be a form of faith
Sometimes, there is no need to explain everything. Keeping silent while God works is an expression of trust—trust that He will defend, reveal, and lead in His perfect time.

Think About It:
- Am I being wise with what I share and with whom I share it?
- Am I surrounded by a healthy circle of people with whom I can be truly transparent?
- What should I keep in my heart today and trust God to handle in His perfect timing?
