Thanks for God and People
Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers:
Ephesians 1:15-16 (NKJV)
When the apostle Paul wrote to the church in Ephesus, he did not begin with correction or warning, but with gratitude. His heart was filled with joy because of what he had heard about them: their faith in God and their love for people. This passage reveals what truly matters in the Christian life—our relationship with God and with others. In the midst of so many temporary things, Paul focused on the eternal and taught us to value what has everlasting impact.
- They placed their faith in the Lord Jesus
The church in Ephesus had not put their trust in wealth, positions, influence, or temporary people. Their faith was rooted in Christ, the only sure and eternal foundation. This sustained them and gave them identity. - They loved God’s people everywhere
Their love was neither selective nor superficial. It was sincere and sacrificial, expressed through actions. Paul highlighted this because genuine faith is always accompanied by real love for people. - Paul constantly gave thanks for them
His reaction to seeing this spiritual maturity was to give thanks. Not for material things, but for the testimony of a living church that reflected God’s heart. His prayer was continuous, showing how much he valued these people. - They valued the eternal—God and people
Paul celebrated that the Ephesians focused their lives on what holds eternal value. God will never pass away, and people have an eternal destiny. Investing in a relationship with God and in serving others is a wise decision worthy of recognition. - Their love was shown through concrete actions
Their love for God and people was not just theory. It was evident in their generosity, service, prayers, and dedication. That kind of love transforms communities and glorifies God.
Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers:
Ephesians 1:15-16 (NKJV)
Think About It:
• Am I placing my faith in something eternal or in things that fade away?
• Do I truly love God’s people, even those who are different from me?
• What concrete actions can I take today to show love for God and for people?
