He Was Wasting What Belonged to His Master

He Was Wasting What Belonged to His Master

Jesus told this story to his disciples: “There was a certain rich man who had a manager handling his affairs. One day a report came that the manager was wasting his employer’s money.” Luke 16:1 (NLT)

In this parable, Jesus introduces us to a manager who found himself in serious trouble because of a grave accusation: he was wasting his master’s possessions. This story should lead us to reflect on our own lives. God has entrusted us with countless resources—gifts, anointing, time, energy, and words. The question we must ask today is whether we are being good stewards or if, without realizing it, we are wasting what He has entrusted to us.
Not Wasting the Anointing of God.
The presence and power of God in our lives are an immeasurable treasure. We cannot afford to waste them on vain things or disobedience; we must use that anointing to fulfill His purpose each day.
Not Wasting Time.
Each day is a gift that does not return. The years we live should be lived with purpose. We do not want to reach the end and realize we wasted the opportunities God gave us to impact others.
Not Wasting Strength.
God gives us vitality and energy. We, as a couple, have gladly used our strongest years for the Lord and for the benefit of the people in His church. We must continue investing our strength in what truly matters.
Not Wasting Words.
Our words have the power to create or destroy. That is why we make the decision to speak with purpose, to use our mouths to build and not tear down, to encourage and not criticize, to bless and not curse.
Not Wasting Conversations.
Part of being a good steward of our words is using them wisely. We will give the best of our conversations to people who value and appreciate our words, and we will not waste them trying to convince those who do not desire change.
Being a faithful steward means taking seriously everything the Lord has placed in our hands. It is not only about money, as in the parable, but about our entire lives. May the Lord find us, at the end of our days, having wisely invested every gift, every day, and every word for His glory and the edification of His church.

Think About It:

  1. In what area do you feel you have been “wasting” the resources God has given you (time, gifts, words)?
  2. What practical step will you take today to use your words with purpose—to bless and not to criticize?
  3. How can you ensure that you are investing your best strength and time into things that have eternal value?
