My Heart Falls in Love with What I Consider Valuable
Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.
Matthew 6:21 (NLT)
This passage confronts us with a simple yet profound truth: the heart follows value. What we dedicate the most time, effort, and resources to ends up occupying the center of our affections. Jesus is not speaking only about money, but about priorities, focus, and the direction of the soul.
- The heart follows the value I assign
We do not always love first and then invest; many times we invest and then love. When something receives our constant attention, it becomes valuable to us, and our heart ends up being tied to it. - Time and money reveal my true treasures
If we want to know what we truly consider important, we only need to observe how we use our time and how we manage our resources. Where we consistently invest, there our heart eventually rests. - Investing in what is right protects what we love
When we prioritize relationships, family, and purpose above material things, we protect what truly has eternal value. It is not about rejecting the material, but about not allowing it to take the place that belongs to what is essential. - Materialism competes for the heart
When there is always time to produce more or consume more, but not to cultivate marriage, walk alongside our children, or serve in the Church, it is a sign that the treasure has shifted. The heart, inevitably, follows it. - Eternal treasures rightly orient the heart
Jesus invites us to store up treasures in heaven. Spiritual investments—love, service, faith, generosity—produce fruit that does not wear out and align our desires with the heart of God.
Living wisely is consciously deciding where to place our treasures. When we invest in what is eternal, our heart finds stability, joy, and lasting purpose.
Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.
Matthew 6:21 (NLT)
Think About It:
- What do the way I use my time and money today reveal about my priorities?
- Is there any temporary treasure that is capturing more of my heart than it should?
- What practical change can I make this week to invest more in what has eternal value?
