Take Care of Your Body Because It Is Loaned by God
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NKJV
Dear church, we often think that our spiritual life is completely separate from our physical reality, assuming that what we do with our body does not affect our relationship with the Creator. However, the apostle Paul directly confronts this mentality in his letter to the Corinthians. In a cultural environment where the body was used for selfish pleasure and excesses, the Word reminds us of a revolutionary truth: our anatomy is not our exclusive property. We were designed, redeemed, and inhabited by God Himself. Therefore, taking care of our physical, mental, and emotional health is not a simple matter of appearance or earthly well-being, but a sacred act of stewardship and worship to the Owner of our lives.
- The temple of the divine presence Our body is not a simple biological container, but the living dwelling place of the Holy Spirit here on earth. Understanding that God Himself has decided to inhabit us commits us to take care of this sacred space, turning away from destructive habits, vices, or extreme neglect that damage the place the Lord has sanctified for His glory.
- The value of redemption We are not our own owners because our freedom had an incalculable cost: the blood of Jesus Christ on the cross. When we understand the high price the Father paid to rescue us completely, we begin to see our health and physical well-being as a valuable gift that we must protect, honor, and manage with the greatest possible respect.
- The stewardship of health Just as we are responsible for faithfully managing our finances and time, God will call us to render accounts on how we treat the well-being He has loaned us. Getting enough rest, eating a balanced diet, and avoiding excessive stress are wise decisions that allow us to preserve the strength needed to fulfill the divine purpose.
- An instrument for service Our hands, feet, mind, and voice are the tools God uses to extend His kingdom, heal hearts, and preach the gospel. If we irresponsibly neglect our physical integrity, we limit our capacity to actively serve the church and bless our family with the energy the Lord requires of us.
- Honoring God in totality True worship is not limited to congregational songs, but is manifested in the way we govern our daily desires and needs. Glorifying Christ with our body implies making conscious decisions that reflect temperance, self-discipline, and a deep gratitude for the life and perfect design He granted us.
Beloved brothers and sisters, the health and vigor we possess today are loaned resources that demand godly stewardship. Let us not allow the currents of neglect or the abuse of earthly pleasures to destroy the temple that God designed with so much love. By consecrating every aspect of our physical being to the lordship of Christ, we experience an integral fullness that bears witness to His restoring power. Let us commit today to care for this body, adopting habits that promote life and holiness, so that in each daily journey our strength is ready and renewed to fulfill the beautiful mission that heaven has entrusted to us.
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NKJV
Think About It:
- What daily habits in your lifestyle are neglecting or unnecessarily wearing down the temple that the Holy Spirit inhabits?
- In what practical way can you reflect this week that your body belongs to God and that you value the high price paid for your redemption?
- What concrete decisions will you make today regarding your rest, nutrition, or stress management to be able to serve the Lord with greater energy and health?
