Overcome Fear with Faith
But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just have faith.” Mark 5:36 NLT
In the passage of Mark 5, we see the story of Jairus, a synagogue leader who receives the worst news a father can hear: his daughter has died. Right in that moment of extreme pain and despair, where everything seems lost and the voices around only pronounce defeat, Jesus intervenes with a clear instruction that will change the course of the story. Many times, we too find ourselves surrounded by negative voices telling us that our marriage, our finances, or our health no longer have a solution.
- Filter the voices you hear The people around you will always have an opinion about your situation. Many will tell you that it is impossible, to give up, or that it is already too late, but you must decide who you are going to pay attention to.
- Do not give place to fear Fear paralyzes you and clouds your spiritual vision. When crisis strikes, fear will try to make you believe that God has lost control of your life, but Jesus orders you not to let yourself be dominated by fear.
- Faith requires a decision Jesus told Jairus “just have faith.” This means that faith is not simply a nice feeling, but an absolute determination to trust in the Word of God above human logic or bad news.
- Walk accompanied by Jesus Despite the bad news, Jairus did not distance himself from the Lord. When you face your worst battles, that is the moment to draw closer to Jesus, seek strength in your church, and remain constant in prayer.
The Lord does not ignore what you are going through. Although circumstances and people may tell you that everything is finished and there is no way out, God has the final word. Your faith has the power to activate the supernatural and transform pain into a resurrection miracle, as long as you decide not to let yourself be overcome by doubt and fear.

Think About It:
- What bad news have you received recently that is trying to fill you with fear?
- Which negative voices in your surroundings do you need to stop listening to today?
- Take a few minutes to pray and place that difficult situation into the hands of Jesus, declaring that you decide to believe.
