Called into His Wonderful Light
But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9 NLT
The apostle Peter writes this letter to believers who were scattered and facing various difficulties to remind them of their new and true identity in Christ. Often, our circumstances and surroundings can make us feel that we have no value or purpose, but God assures us that we have been set apart for a glorious mission in this world.
- A chosen people We are not in this world by chance. God has intentionally chosen us to be part of His family and fulfill a divine purpose.
- Royal priests We have the privilege of serving God directly and interceding for others. Our priesthood means we can approach Him confidently at any time.
- A holy nation Being holy means we have been set apart from sin and the ways of the world to reflect God’s pure character in our daily actions.
- God’s very own possession We no longer belong to our past or to darkness; we belong completely to our Creator, which gives us immeasurable value and eternal security.
- Called to show His goodness Our identity comes with a clear mission: to be witnesses of His grace and guide others from darkness into the Lord’s wonderful light.
When we understand who we truly are in Christ, our perspective changes completely. We no longer live to please the world, but to live up to our calling, shining brightly and demonstrating the Father’s unfailing love to everyone around us.
But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9 NLT
Think About It:
- How are you showing God’s light and goodness to the people at your workplace or school?
- Remember your identity in Christ today and reject any thoughts of inferiority or lack of purpose.
- Spend time in prayer asking God to show you whom you can help out of darkness this week.
