Qualities of a Good Leader
Give your love of justice to the king, O God, and righteousness to the king’s son. Psalm 72:1 NLT
In our modern context, kings no longer rule as they did in ancient times, but biblical principles remain fully applicable to leadership today. God calls us to demonstrate specific qualities when He gives us the privilege of leading in our community, so that we can influence and bless others.
- A leader must love justice When God places us in leadership positions in the church, the workplace, the university, or the community, we must be impartial and fair toward everyone.
- A leader must judge wisely A leader will inevitably face the challenge of making difficult decisions. Therefore, it is essential to use divine wisdom to judge each situation correctly and lead others well.
- A leader considers the poor, not just wealthy friends A good leader does not look down on the poor but creates opportunities for those less fortunate to improve their lives. Today, some justice systems seem to favor the influential, but a leader after God’s own heart treats everyone equally and has compassion for the weak.
- A leader brings prosperity to the place they lead Those who exercise leadership under the Lord’s guidance encourage all the righteous around them to flourish. Good leadership also allows its surroundings to become fruitful and ensures prosperity and well-being for the people.
- A leader fears God and has His blessing The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. When a leader truly fears God and bases their actions on the Bible, they receive His blessing and support so they can fulfill all their responsibilities well.
No matter where you exercise influence, your leadership should clearly reflect the character of Christ. By acting with righteousness, wisdom, and compassion, your life will inspire others, and you will leave a lasting legacy of integrity for future generations.

Think About It:
- In what areas of my life has God called me to exercise leadership, and how can I practice greater justice in them today?
- How is the fear of God guiding the difficult decisions I must make as a leader?
- What actions can I take this week to show greater compassion and be a greater blessing to those less fortunate in my community?
