The Spirit’s Trustworthy Guidance
“Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.” Galatians 5:25 (NLT)
As human beings, we often find it difficult to make hard decisions. Every day, we face situations in which we are unsure which path to take to avoid making mistakes. When we think of a “guide,” we mean something that gives us direction to accomplish something or reach the place we are looking for in the shortest possible time and in the most efficient way. Just as we use maps or manuals in the natural world, we urgently need a spiritual compass to steady us and direct our steps every day.
- Direction for our lives Just as a map helps us reach our desired destination or a cooking guide shows us how to prepare something with excellence, the Lord offers us vital direction so that we can succeed on our journey.
- The need for a trustworthy guide With so many options before us, whether in marriage, finances, or business, we desperately need a guide we can rely on. That completely trustworthy guide in all these things is the Holy Spirit.
- The Bible as our manual for life We find this trustworthy guidance in the Bible, which was inspired by God through His Holy Spirit. As we read the Scriptures, He gives us illumination and revelation, opening our spiritual eyes so that life leaps from the written lines.
- Practical and relevant application It is not merely about accumulating knowledge but about asking the Spirit to give us understanding so that we can apply His words in a practical and relevant way to every decision we make each day of our lives.
- Peace as confirmation The Holy Spirit grants us peace in every decision we are about to make in our spiritual, family, social, and financial lives. That complete peace when making a choice is His confirmation that He is the One guiding us along the right path.
We surrender our own limited reasoning and allow the Spirit of God to govern every area of our walk. When we actively seek His direction, we avoid detours and unnecessary headaches. Trusting in His constant guidance guarantees that our daily actions will align perfectly with the original plan and the success in every area of life that the Father carefully designed for us.
