Relevant

Relevant

In that He says, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.
Hebrews 8:13 (NKJV)

The writer of Hebrews reminds us that God established a new covenant in Christ, and that made the old one obsolete and come to an end. This teaching not only speaks of a change in biblical history but is also a reminder for our lives: the old must be replaced with the new that God offers, because what is not renewed becomes irrelevant, expires, and disappears.

  • Replace the old with the new
God invites us to leave behind what no longer produces life. Just as the old covenant gave way to the new, we must also abandon attitudes, thoughts, and habits that hold us back. What is not renewed dies.
  • Keep the purpose alive
The purpose God has given us must remain fresh and active. If we do not feed it with faith, prayer, and action, we run the risk of making it irrelevant and letting it die.
  • Avoid becoming obsolete
A person can remain trapped in old habits or ways of thinking that no longer work. Just as what is old expires, our attitudes can also become outdated if we do not allow God to transform them.
  • Renew the attitude constantly
The renewal of the mind is daily. Leaving behind negativity, complaining, or hardness of heart makes way for God’s joy, peace, and love in our relationships and character.
  • Accept the new that God has
God’s new things always bring life and freshness. If we cling to the old, we will not be able to experience the best He has prepared. Jesus Himself said that no one puts new wine into old wineskins, because they break (Matthew 9:17 NKJV).

The Lord wants us to remain relevant, renewed, and ready to embrace the new that He is doing in our personal, family, ministry, and work life.

In that He says, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.
Hebrews 8:13 (NKJV)

Think About It:

  • What thoughts, friendships, or habits must I leave behind because they are making me obsolete?
  • In what areas of my life do I need renewal to remain relevant in God’s plans?
  • Am I willing to let go of the old to take hold of the new that God wants to give me in this season?
