This Will Remind You
“You shall dwell in booths for seven days. All who are native Israelites shall dwell in booths, that your generations may know that I made the children of Israel dwell in booths when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.”
Leviticus 23:42-43 (NKJV)
The Lord asked Israel to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles, an annual reminder of how God brought them out of Egypt and sustained them in the wilderness. Even after entering the promised land and enjoying abundance, they had to leave their comfortable houses and live in tents. It was a practical way to never forget who had saved, sustained, and prospered them.
- We are prone to forget
The human heart tends to forget God’s goodness when abundance comes. Comfort can lead us to complaining and ingratitude. That is why God established reminders to keep gratitude alive in His people. - Reminders strengthen gratitude
Sleeping in booths was not a burden but a means to remember that they depended on God and not on their riches. In the same way, we need practices that help us maintain an attitude of thankfulness. - Memory is passed down from generation to generation
The instruction included teaching the children the reason for the celebration. Remembering what God has done is not only for me, but also for future generations to live aware of His faithfulness. - We also need reminders today
Perhaps we do not sleep in tents, but we can keep a gratitude journal, set devotional times, or practice acts of service that constantly remind us of God’s goodness and His past faithfulness. - The more we receive, the more thankful we should be
The more we grow and prosper, the greater our gratitude should be—to God, to those who have helped us, and to those in need. Gratitude keeps our hearts humble.
God did not want Israel to forget that everything came from Him. The same is true for us: every blessing, every victory, and every achievement is the fruit of His mighty hand. Keeping that memory alive helps us remain grateful and faithful in every season.

Think About It:
- What personal practices can I adopt to daily remember God’s faithfulness?
- Am I passing on to my children or to others gratitude for what the Lord has done in my life?
- How can I show greater gratitude to God in times of abundance and comfort?
