“I have told you these things so that you won’t abandon your faith.”
John 16:1 (NLT)

Words have tremendous power. With them we can build or destroy, lift up or tear down, encourage or discourage. Jesus Himself used His words to strengthen His disciples, assuring them that they were not alone, but that the Holy Spirit would come as Comforter and Advocate to be with them. In the same way, our words can sustain the faith of those around us or, on the contrary, weaken it.

  • Speak according to the Word of God
When we repeat the promises of the Bible and speak what God says, we not only strengthen our own faith, but also the faith of those who listen to us. The Word of God never returns void.
  • Recognize the creative power of words
What we constantly say shapes our character and our destiny. Our words are seeds that produce fruit—whether life or death, blessing or ruin.
  • Avoid destructive words
Just as a storm begins with a wind, negative words can turn into a whirlwind that destroys relationships, dreams, and trust. That is why we must be careful not to sow winds that produce storms.
  • Use our words as instruments of blessing
God calls us to make our conversations like rain that refreshes and gives life—words that encourage, edify, and strengthen the faith of those walking beside us.

Just as Jesus spoke to His disciples so they would not abandon their faith, we too can be bearers of words that renew hope and confidence in God. Our words can be a channel of the Holy Spirit to strengthen faith in the midst of any situation.

“I have told you these things so that you won’t abandon your faith.”
John 16:1 (NLT)

Think About It:

  1. What words are you sowing each day in your family, workplace, and church?
  2. Do your conversations strengthen the faith of others or weaken it?
  3. What promises from the Word of God can you begin declaring today over your life and the lives of those around you?
