The Power of the Resurrection
You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.
Colossians 2:13–15 (NLT)
This passage takes us to the heart of the gospel. The cross was not a momentary defeat, it was an eternal victory that was fully manifested in the resurrection. Jesus not only died for our sins; He rose to give us new life, real freedom, and spiritual authority. The resurrection changes our past history, transforms our present, and secures our future.
- The Resurrection Gives Us Spiritual Life We were spiritually dead, without the ability to save ourselves. But God made us alive together with Christ. The resurrection is not just a historical event; it is a spiritual experience that awakens us to a new way of living.
- The Debt Was Canceled Completely The record with the charges against us was canceled and nailed to the cross. No payment was left pending. The resurrection confirms that the sacrifice was accepted and that forgiveness is total, not partial.
- The Shame Was Removed Jesus not only forgave sin, He also removed the public shame that the enemy used to accuse us. The resurrection declares that we no longer live under condemnation, but under grace.
- The Spiritual Forces Were Disarmed Christ defeated and stripped the spiritual authorities of evil. The enemy no longer has the last word. The resurrection affirms that Jesus has all authority and that we walk from His victory, not seeking one.
- We Live from Victory, Not Toward It The resurrection positions us as free, forgiven, and empowered children. We do not fight to win; we fight knowing that Christ has already won. That changes our faith, our prayer, and our way of facing life.
The resurrection is not just something we believe, it is something we live. Christ lives, and because He lives, we also live in freedom, with hope, and with power to walk in a transformed life.

Think About It:
- Am I living as someone forgiven and free or as if I still carried debts from the past?
- What area of my life needs to align today with Christ’s victory and not with fear?
- How can I live this week from the truth that Jesus has already won?
