Dying to Live

Dying to Live

(Kingdom Principle)

“But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else.”
Mark 10:43–44 (NLT)

In the Kingdom of God, things don’t work the way they do in the world. Outside, many people want to climb, be seen, be recognized, and have control. But Jesus teaches us a completely different path: the path of the cross — where you win by losing, you live by dying, and you lead by serving. This principle is not weakness; it is spiritual power. Because when ego dies, purpose is born; when pride dies, the character of Christ is revealed.

  • Dying to self is the beginning of true life
The greatest enemy of purpose is not the devil — many times it is our own “self”: my desires, my plans, my pride. Following Jesus means surrendering control and saying, “Lord, not my will, but Yours be done.” When self dies, the life of Christ begins to rule.
  • In the Kingdom, greatness is measured by service
Jesus redefined what it means to be great. It’s not having more — it’s serving more. It’s not being applauded — it’s being useful. A serving heart shows maturity because it understands that calling is not to elevate us, but to bless others.
  • Spiritual leadership is born in humility
The world looks for leaders who command; Jesus forms leaders who wash feet. A true leader doesn’t need to force authority, because their authority comes from their character. Humility doesn’t make you less — it makes you more like Christ, and that is what God honors.
  • Being first means refusing to compete
Many live comparing themselves, fighting for positions, and seeking recognition. But in the Kingdom, the first is the one who lays down their life. The one who refuses competition and chooses to love, serve, and build others up is the one God lifts up at the right time.
  • When you die to comfort, God uses your life with power
Serving costs. Loving costs. Forgiving costs. But that “cost” is part of God’s process to form Christ in us. Anointing is not sustained by pride — it is sustained by surrender. And when you choose to die to your comfort, God entrusts you with more because He knows you won’t do it for your glory, but for His.

God is raising up a church that doesn’t seek thrones, but towels; that doesn’t seek applause, but fruit; that doesn’t seek to be served, but to serve. Dying to live is the way of the Kingdom: ego dies, purpose lives; pride dies, love is born; self-sufficiency dies, and the power of God is revealed. And when you embrace this principle, your life becomes a tool in the hands of the Lord.

“But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else.”
Mark 10:43–44 (NLT)

Think About It:

  1. What part of your “self” do you need to surrender today so Christ can rule your life more?
  2. In what area can you serve this week without expecting recognition?
  3. Are you seeking positions, or are you seeking to become more like Jesus?
