He Did Not Overlook It

He Did Not Overlook It

“Praise God, who did not ignore my prayer or withdraw his unfailing love from me.”
Psalm 66:20 (NLT)

In this verse, the psalmist expresses deep gratitude to God for two truths that sustain the life of the believer: God does not ignore our prayers, and He does not withdraw His unfailing love. It’s easy to think that God isn’t listening, that He is silent or distant. But the truth is that even when we don’t see Him act immediately, He never overlooks a sincere prayer. His love remains, even when we fall. And while He does not ignore sin, He has provided the way of forgiveness—by paying the price Himself.
1. There are things God does not overlook
God is not indifferent to sin. He is holy, just, and cannot pretend that sin doesn’t exist. Sin has consequences, and the primary one is eternal separation from God. But instead of ignoring our wrongdoing or sweeping it under the rug, God chose to confront it with both grace and justice.
He didn’t overlook your mistakes or your rebellion. What He did was carry them on the cross. He didn’t minimize them—He paid for them. He didn’t hide them—He faced them. He didn’t ignore them—He overcame them with His sacrificial love.
“Guillermo, I cannot ignore your sin, but I can pay for it.”
That is exactly what God did for each one of us.
“For the wages of sin is death…”
Romans 6:23 (NLT)
…and Christ took on that payment to give us life.
2. He did not withdraw His unfailing love
Despite our failures, doubts, complaints, or indifference, God continues to love with a love that does not change. It is not a love that weakens over time, nor one that depends on our behavior. His love is unfailing, steady, eternal.
“The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.”
Lamentations 3:22–23 (NLT)
This means that no matter how many times you’ve failed, if you return to Him with a sincere heart, His love is still there—unchanged, available. There is no sin that wears Him out, no wound that makes Him stop, no prayer that exhausts Him.
3. God did not overlook my prayer
Maybe you’ve prayed and nothing seems to have changed. But God never overlooks the prayer of the righteous. He listens, He responds in His timing, and He acts in ways we don’t always immediately understand. The psalmist doesn’t say God answered everything the way he wanted—but he declares with confidence: “God did not overlook my prayer.”
When you pray, you are not speaking into the air. You are being heard by the Creator of the universe. And even if you haven’t seen the answer yet, you can trust that He is already at work—because He never ignores His children.
4. Thank You for Your Patience, Lord
God’s faithfulness is the solid ground on which we stand every morning. If we depended on our own strength, we would fall. If His love depended on our perfection, we would be lost. But He endures, He waits, He holds us, and He never stops loving us. His patience is the bridge between our weakness and His will.
“Thank You, Lord, for not taking Your love from me. Thank You for Your patience. Thank You for still hearing my prayers. Thank You for not overlooking my cry, my tears, or my repentance.”

“Praise God, who did not ignore my prayer or withdraw his unfailing love from me.”
Psalm 66:20 (NLT)

Think About It:

  1. What sin or burden are you trying to hide instead of giving it to the One who already paid for it?
  2. Have you doubted God’s love for you in the midst of your failures or in prolonged silence during prayer?
  3. Can you give thanks today that God has not taken His love from you, nor has He overlooked your prayers?
