Leave Her Alone
But Jesus replied, “Leave her alone. Why criticize her for doing such a good thing to me?”Mark 14:6 (NLT)
In this passage, Jesus defends a woman who, in an act of love and devotion, anoints His head with expensive perfume. Some who were present criticize her for what they see as a waste. But Jesus responds firmly: “Leave her alone.” This declaration is not only a defense against criticism, but a revelation of Christ’s heart toward those who love Him sincerely. He always protects those who come to Him in faith and brings peace where others bring judgment.
This scene reflects a powerful truth: when we come to Christ, He restores the peace the world has taken from us. He defends us from judgment, from the past, from accusation, and from the enemy. His voice still echoes in the midst of our battles, saying, “Leave him alone, he is mine.”
1. Jesus Restores Our Peace
When we accept Christ, we experience a peace that surpasses all understanding. That peace does not depend on circumstances, but on His presence within us. He calls us to lay down our burdens, stress, and guilt, and rest in His love.
2. Jesus Defends Us from the Enemy
The enemy will always seek to accuse, condemn, or make us retreat. But Jesus intercedes for us. His sacrifice on the cross is the guarantee that there is no condemnation for those who are in Him. When the enemy rises up, Christ declares: “Leave him alone.”
3. Jesus Silences the World’s Criticism
Many times people criticize our faith decisions, our service, and our love for God. But Jesus, as He did with the woman and her perfume, honors our devotion. He sees the heart and does not allow outside voices to destroy what was born of true worship.
4. Jesus Breaks Guilt and Shame
The past can feel like a prison, but in Christ there is freedom. He already paid the price for our mistakes and gives us a new identity. Guilt and shame no longer have power, because He speaks with authority: “Leave him alone, he has been forgiven.”
5. Jesus Values What Others Despise
What some considered a waste, Jesus saw as a beautiful act. In the same way, He values every tear, every prayer, every step of faith—even if others don’t understand. Nothing done in love for Him is ever in vain.
6. Jesus Gives Us Security Amidst Judgment
Even when everyone points, murmurs, or accuses, Jesus remains our defender. His word is the final authority. If He says we are free, no one can say otherwise.
But Jesus replied, “Leave her alone. Why criticize her for doing such a good thing to me?”

Think About It:
• What voices are stealing the peace Christ has already given me?
• Am I allowing guilt or criticism to distance me from Jesus?
• What can I do today as a sincere act of love for Jesus, without fear of others’ judgment?
