It Had Walls
“So the area was 875 feet on each side with a wall all around it to separate what was holy from what was common.”
Ezekiel 42:20 (NLT)
In the temple vision, God instructed that a wall be built around the sacred area. This wall was not mere architecture; it was a spiritual declaration: there are things that must be protected, and boundaries that must not be crossed. The wall separated the holy from the common.
Today, this principle remains vital in our lives. We’re not erecting physical barriers, but setting up spiritual, emotional, and personal boundaries to preserve what God has deemed valuable:
- Spiritual walls protect us from sin and distraction
We recognize that not everything “normal” in the world is acceptable for a child of God. Healthy spiritual boundaries keep us consecrated. - Mental walls preserve our peace and focus
Toxic thoughts and external distractions must be filtered out. A sound mental boundary allows only what builds us up to enter our minds. - Emotional walls guard against unnecessary weariness
Not every battle is ours to fight. Emotional limits help us care for our hearts so we can love wisely rather than from exhaustion. - Family walls safeguard our most precious treasure
Clear family boundaries—quality time, mutual respect, and firm principles—preserve order and prevent everything from blending into chaos. - Financial and ministerial walls ensure balance
Learning to say “no” to certain expenses or commitments enables us to steward faithfully what God has entrusted to us.
“So the area was 875 feet on each side with a wall all around it to separate what was holy from what was common.”
Ezekiel 42:20 (NLT)
Think About It:
- Which areas of my life need a protective wall today?
- Have I been allowing the common to invade what God has declared holy in me?
- What boundary should I establish this week to protect my spiritual, emotional, or family health?
