We Suffer Together

We Suffer Together

For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake, having the same conflict which you saw in me and now hear is in me.
Philippians 1:29-30 (NKJV)

The Christian life is not only an invitation to believe, but also to walk with Christ through difficult moments. The apostle Paul reminds us that both faith and suffering are part of the privilege of following Jesus. Although we sometimes face trials, we do not face them alone. We are part of a community of believers who struggle, pray, and move forward together. In the midst of suffering, God gives us comfort, purpose, and companionship.

  1. Trusting in Christ is a gift
Paul says it has been granted to us to believe in Christ. This trust is the foundation of our spiritual life. We choose to place our security not in our own strength, but in the Lord. He is faithful even when everything around us changes. It is a privilege to depend on His grace rather than our abilities.
  2. Suffering for Christ is also a privilege
Although the word “suffering” sounds negative, for the believer it has eternal value. To suffer for Christ means we are identified with Him. We know these difficult moments are not in vain. As Romans 8:18 says, what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory God will reveal to us later. Suffering has a purpose, and God uses it to strengthen us and make us more like Christ.
  3. We are not alone in the struggle
Paul says clearly, “we are in this struggle together.” The Christian life is not meant to be lived in isolation. God has surrounded us with people walking the same road. Everyone faces battles—some harder, some more visible—but we are all being refined. That is why we need to pray for one another, support one another, and remind each other that we are not alone.
  4. God gave us companions for the journey
Ecclesiastes 4:9 teaches that two are better than one. In times of falling, pain, or confusion, we need people who will lift us up. The Christian community is not optional—it is essential. Part of our mission is to encourage, uphold, and pray for those who are also going through difficult seasons.
  5. Shared suffering strengthens love
When we share our burdens, we not only find relief, but also strengthen the bonds that unite us as a spiritual family. Together we grow, together we weep, and together we will also celebrate the victories God will give us.

For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake, having the same conflict which you saw in me and now hear is in me.
Philippians 1:29-30 (NKJV)

Think About It:
• Am I thanking God for the privilege of trusting in Him, even in trials?
• Who can I reach out to today to remind them they are not alone in their struggle?
• Am I being intentional in praying for others who are also going through difficult times?
