False Rumors

False Rumors

“You shall not circulate a false report. Do not put your hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.”
Exodus 23:1 (NKJV)

In this passage God instructs His people about the importance of truth and justice. It is not only about avoiding gossip, but also about not repeating words that go against what God has already said in His Word. Many times, without realizing it, Christians may be spreading “false rumors” when we speak against God’s promises, repeating doubts, fears, or lies that contradict the truth of the Scriptures.
False rumors with our words
It is not only about gossip among people, it also includes what we declare over our own lives. When we say “I can’t” or “I don’t have,” we are repeating rumors that contradict the truth of God.
The truth of the Word must be our guide
Every time a thought of fear or lack wants to come out of our mouth, we must remember what God has already declared: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13 NKJV). His promises must be stronger than our feelings.
False rumors about provision
When we say “I’m going to end up poor,” we are spreading a lie. The truth is that God promises to supply all our needs and to bless us abundantly (Philippians 4:19 NKJV; Malachi 3:10 NKJV).
False rumors about sickness
When we speak of “my sickness,” we take ownership of something that does not come from God. The truth is that by the stripes of Jesus we have been healed (Isaiah 53:5 NKJV). Healing is part of our inheritance in Christ.
The power of the tongue
Proverbs 18:21 reminds us that death and life are in the power of the tongue. Every word we speak opens doors: either to faith and blessing, or to fear and defeat.
God calls us not to be accomplices of false rumors—neither in conversations with others, nor in the words we declare over our own lives. May our mouths be instruments to proclaim the truth of God and not to spread the lies of the enemy.

“You shall not circulate a false report. Do not put your hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.”
Exodus 23:1 (NKJV)

Think About It:

  • What negative or fearful phrases are you repeating that are actually false rumors?
  • How can you replace those words with the promises of the Bible?
  • What impact would it have on your life and family if you only declared God’s truth over your circumstances?
