Keeping a Record of Progress
Now Moses wrote down the starting points of their journeys at the command of the Lord. And these are their journeys according to their starting points.
Numbers 33:2 (NKJV)
This verse teaches us that God is not only interested in the final destination, but also in the process. The Lord Himself commanded that the people’s progress be recorded, stage by stage. This reminds us that there are things worth keeping and others that are better released. What we choose to store in our minds and hearts can either move us forward or make the journey bitter.
- Not every thought deserves to be kept
There are good thoughts worth recording because they build faith and strengthen hope. But there are also toxic thoughts that, if stored, end up damaging our soul. Keeping what is unhealthy can slow down our spiritual growth. - The right experiences produce growth
Good experiences—even the difficult ones God used to shape us—are worth remembering. Recording them helps us recognize how the Lord caused us to move forward, mature, and grow as people, leaders, and servants. - Recording progress honors God’s faithfulness
Moses did not write a record of complaints, but of progress. When we write down what God has done, we remember that He has been present at every stage. This strengthens our faith for the future and helps us not forget where the Lord brought us from. - The record blesses the next generations
Writing, preserving, and sharing stories of progress can become a spiritual inheritance. Testimonies, devotionals, and memories of what God has done today can be a source of faith and direction for those who come after us. - Progress is built step by step
Every stage matters. Not every day is spectacular, but each step is part of the journey forward. Recording progress helps us value the process and recognize that God is still at work even when the road feels long.
When we learn to keep what is right and release what hinders us, our lives are filled with gratitude and purpose. A record of progress reminds us that we are not stuck—we are on the way, and God continues to guide every step.
Now Moses wrote down the starting points of their journeys at the command of the Lord. And these are their journeys according to their starting points.

Think About It:
- What thoughts or experiences do I need to stop storing because they are making my heart bitter?
- What evidence of God’s progress in my life should I record and thank Him for more often?
- How can I use my story and my writings to bless the next generations?
