Meek
Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.
Matthew 5:5 (NKJV)
Meekness is a virtue that is often misunderstood. In a culture that exalts aggressiveness and domination, being meek can seem like a synonym for weakness. However, the Bible presents meekness as a deeply spiritual inner strength. It is not a lack of character, but self-control; not passivity, but power submitted to the will of God.
- Meekness is not weakness
Being meek does not mean lacking strength, but choosing not to use it in an uncontrolled way. Meekness is strength under control, character governed by wisdom rather than impulse. - Meekness is born from security in God
Only a person who is secure in their identity and calling can truly be meek. Those who constantly need to impose themselves often do so from insecurity. Meekness reflects confidence that God is the one who defends and exalts. - Meekness controls emotions and impulses
Being meek involves self-control. It means not reacting from anger, offense, or pride, but responding with wisdom and restraint. This does not eliminate firmness, but it purifies intention. - Meekness channels strength in the right way
Like a wild horse that has been tamed, the strength is still there, but now it is directed. Meekness does not remove power; it focuses it to produce life, edification, and progress. - Meekness is a quality of great biblical leaders
Moses was called the meekest man, yet he confronted pharaohs and led nations. Jesus was meek and lowly in heart, and yet He confronted sin and transformed the world. Meekness does not limit impact; it multiplies it.
Meekness does not oppose courage; it completes it. God promises inheritance, influence, and authority to those who learn to live with controlled power and a surrendered heart. To be meek is not to be less; it is to be more like Christ.
Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.
Matthew 5:5 (NKJV)
Think About It:
- Do I react from impulse or from self-control when I face conflict?
- Do I confuse meekness with weakness in the way I think or act?
- In what area of my life is God calling me to exercise strength with greater meekness?
